With this block series we wanted to create a story that could connect us and the owner of the block to a place for the rest of its life. All of these blocks were taken from the leftover stump tops in a Sunshine Coast clearcut. The species is Douglas fir. Each block is marked with a copper tag that has a GPS location marker. The story that we see, is that a family over the years could together see the place where a piece of their home came from, maybe experiencing joy and connection in a new forest, that was once a clearcut.
Barter has been testing ways to use fishnets that have been cleaned out of the ocean by the Emerald Sea Protection Society. The initial concept was to braid the nets creating ropes. You can purchase a Barter ESPS Lift stool with a braided fishnet rope and a portion of the proceeds go towards cleaning more nets from the Salish Sea.
Barter only utilizes BC timbre species. Red Cedar, Hemlock, Alder, Maple, Douglas fir. To request a material sample prior to purchasing please email connect@barterdesign.ca
