Our Story

Barter was founded by Kenneth Torrance in 2016.

As an artist, graphic designer, and stone carver based in British Columbia, Canada, he embarked on an entrepreneurial journey with a vision of placing natural materials at the forefront of product design.

Embracing the discovery of potential within, rather than controlling it, became the guiding principle of Barter.

Now, after over a decade of research and development, the vision is clear: Barter serves as an environmental design and manufacturing connection system for all. Whether it's an individual's idea or a larger corporate need, we offer sustainable solutions rooted in our local environment and community. Come walk with us. Come and Barter.

Our Design Philosophy

We are dedicated to creating beautiful, functional and timeless pieces that reflect the power of natural. From handcrafted furniture to beautiful serve and dinnerware, every item we create is designed to help you connect with nature in your daily life and last for generations.

Good things take time - every piece is handmade by a human, and most are made to order.

Our Materials

Nature is our number one collaborator.

Our materials are sustainably sourced on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, and we ensure that our products are made with the utmost care for the planet.

Our Community

We work closely with local suppliers and craftspeople to ensure that our products are not only of the highest quality but also have a positive impact on the communities we serve.
