Handmade on the Sunshine Coast from Old Growth Douglas Fir. Barter believes in protecting old growth. Meanwhile, the old growth fir tree seems to be the best solution for this tool. Doug fir trees grow incredibly large and have extremely powerful root systems, but still at times they fall... My idea, is what if we only ever used this species to make chopsticks. What could 1 old growth Douglas fir yield after it fell to the ground within the cycle of its life. My calculation is this : 100 feet tall x 4 feet wide would yield 2,073,600 chopsticks. (this is based upon the idea that an average old growth fir is 200 feet tall x 5-6' wide. Seriously. 1 tree could contain more than 7 times the value than an entire forest clearcut. 1 million chopstick sets sold at $33. That is just poetry.
